ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Blues are in rebuilding mode again after dealing off several veteran players. However, general manager Doug Armstrong said it's not from lack of financial backing.

Armstrong said Tuesday that ownership had cleared him to make upgrades before the trade deadline but that the talent pool was too shallow and too expensive for a short-term lift that would conflict with earlier salary-shaving trades of Eric Brewer, Brad Boyes and Brad Winchester for draft picks.
