Saltalamacchia, 25, has spent a majority of the 2010 season in Triple-A
Oklahoma City, where he has hit .244 with 11 homers and 44 RBI in 63 games.
The highly-touted prospect, acquired by the Rangers in the Mark Teixeira trade
with the Braves in 2007, has struggled at the big-league level, hitting .251
with 23 home runs and 94 RBI in 240 games over the past four seasons.
The Red Sox will assign Saltalamacchia to Triple-A Pawtucket upon his arrival.
Mendez is a 20-year-old prospect that has gone 2-3 with a 4.36 earned run
average in eight starts this season for Lowell, Texas' short-season Single-A
affiliate.
McGuiness, 22, has also played at low-A ball this year in Greenville, batting
.298 with 20 doubles, 12 homers and 46 RBI in 78 games.
